Rail transport in South Africa entered a new era when Phase 1 of the Gautrain rapid rail project commenced on the 8th of June 2010 with Bombela Concession Company at the helm.
The Gautrain is a rapid-rail, integrated rapid transit system that connects Johannesburg, Tshwane, and the OR Tambo International Airport in Ekurhuleni. The system is made up of 88 kilometres of track, and 10 stations.
