Who We Are
Formed in 2006, the Bombela Concession Company is an all-in-one project and concession management company that specialises in public infrastructure development. We continuously aim to deliver excellence and innovation in infrastructure development sectors in South Africa and beyond.
We have managed to achieve excellent results through effectively managing our subcontractor – Bombela Operating Company (BOC), to ensure that we deliver excellence in accordance with the Concession Agreement that we hold with Provincial Government. Our Story
In the early 2000s, Gauteng – home to South Africa’s largest share of the population – was suffering from heavily congested highways and roads that seemed to be never-ending. At this time, the Provincial Government envisioned an efficient, integrated transport system for the province.
This is where we come in.
In 2006, the Bombela Concession Company was appointed by the Gauteng Provincial Government to design, build, operate, maintain, and partially finance the Gautrain project. It was a public-private partnership that included a 15-year contract for the maintenance and operation of the now-successful Gautrain rapid-rail system.
Today, after much hard work, and with the support of our shareholders and financial institutions, we’re proud to say that the Gautrain connects three metropolitans in the province, namely, Tshwane, Johannesburg, and Ekurhuleni, and is currently one of the most reliable commuter train services in the world, with an average train service availability of approximately 99.30%.
With the success of the Gautrain concession project spurring us on, and as a contract management company in the public infrastructure sector with years of experience and expertise, we’re expanding our portfolio to developments such as bridges, airports, tolls, schools, hospitals, stadiums, and prisons.
So, while Bombela Concession Company has been around for a long time; our story is only just beginning.
